Naked Yoga

Naked and  Thriving Yoga

I know, I know… it seems taboo to many!

Especially down here in South Alabama.

Naked Yoga is the practice of yoga without clothes.

It has existed since ancient times as a spiritual practice but what are some benefits of this and why do people do it?

In a world of over sexualization of the body, fear and shame put on the body, and more and more time spent behind screens, it can be very healthy to come back to the body, innocence of nature, freedom from self-loathing, comparison and self hate.

Many folks discover or may already know, they simply love to be naked!

A study published by Psychology Today suggests that nudity in community in safe spaces has the potential to improve body image and seemed to make people less anxious about how others viewed their bodies, and in turn people felt more at home in their own skin.

Intention is everything.

“When you strip naked without being ashamed, and take your garments and put them under your feet like little children and tread upon them, then [you] will see the child of the living. And you will not be afraid.”
– Jesus, Gospel of Thomas

“We took on shame in a group context and it’s in a group context where we feel safe enough that shame falls away.”
– Dr. Joseph Kramer

Lauren and Israel are authentic, honest, transparent and real. They bring forward learning opportunities in science and spirit, love and wisdom in a very approachable way. I feel seen and understood when I need steadying. I feel valued and encouraged when I need support. They are wonderful individual facilitators, and incredible facilitators together.

- Amber, Yoga Teacher, Mother

Through my session with Lauren I had this insight which was Power. I feel like the deeper I went with the breath, the more I was tapping into “power” or “my power center” I had been holding on to people, things and holding my breath to feel safe. Letting go is scary. But letting go helps me grow and ironically stand in true power.

- Scott, Gym Coach

Before I met Lauren I had went to several counselors and read every self help book I could get my hands on, nothing truly worked. Then….. I started doing Breathwork) with Lauren. I am calmer, I have more inner peace, and I can handle my emotions and events in my life with a level of control I  have never had. Later, I started doing body  embodiment sessions and doing naked yoga. Since then I have more self love. I don’t focus on what people might think-it is just a thought and has no affect on me. The first time I went to the beach after working with Lauren, I put my swimsuit on without anxiety, fear, and tears. I even walked around! My body is fine with all the “flaws” and there is no shame in it. Now I can walk around in front of my husband without trying to hide and telling him not to look. I have more self-love.

- Sarah, Mom, Warrant officer

I went into this breathwork session with so much built up fear and made up stories. Through the breath we transcended the barriers of this fear. I opened up and felt safe enough to allow miracles.  By the time we were done I had lost tract of time and transcended into Gods hands. I felt no more physical pain, only peace and love.

- Aspen, Mom, Real Estate Agent

This was the first class that really challenged me physically and psychologically. She was absolutely so inviting, an excellent teacher, a wonderful mentor, and became a supportive friend. She has this wonderful gift to inspire our self-worth, to explore ourselves, to try new things, and challenge our ‘why not’ resistance to change.

- Paul, Doctor, Dad

As the somatic sessions continued, I started to reclaim parts of my voice that I’d lost. I was able to speak up for myself around the authority figure that I had always walked on eggshells around. The miraculous thing to me was, it wasn’t scary or hard to do! Practicing in the sessions with Lauren, helped me to regain access to my own inner authority and to connect it to my voice.

- Mahila, Teacher

I have had low libido as a result of a few things, childbirth, ME/Chronic fatigue, and shutting down emotions as a coping mechanism. I wanted to open up to fully reconnecting with myself but never came across anyone that I felt could help or trust. Lauren has been brilliant. Her approach is extremely nurturing, Loving, and honors me and where I am, which is slow with plenty of resistance. She is teaching me how to honor the feminine in me. I trust her implicitly.

- Janet, Mom and Spiritual Community space holder

While practicing with Lauren, I learned a lot about myself. It’s ok to be comfortable being uncomfortable. We can find breath in all experiences in life. Apply meaning to the important, while allowing the unimportant to go. Lauren provided an amazing space to practice, breath, and improve my physical and spiritual self. Also attending naked yoga opened a space to be free and open without worry about judgment. I am more comfortable in my own skin and more confident in myself.

- John, US Army, Dad

Wow. I’ve been in therapy for 26 years exploring the topic of self love; the insights I received at retreat with Lauren and Israel have never come up in all those years of therapy. I learned to listen to my body’s wisdom and to speak my truth with kindness (instead of swallowing my truths in the name of politeness…which has created a lot of resentment in my life.)  The insights are too many to name.  I’ve been home for two days and can already see how this is positively impacting my relationships. Both Lauren and Israel create such a safe space and channel so much wisdom; I’m so grateful to both of them for their courage in offering these experiences.

Beginning my Way of Mastery journey with Lauren has been revelatory.  She listens in non-judgement in a way that allows me to become more and more honest with myself.  She is not a meek coach that simply wants you to like her.  She will question and challenge your beliefs.  She speaks from her heart with what I believe is a true desire for my own awakening because she trusts so completely in the interconnectedness of us all through Love.  Her commitment to Truth is commendable and her trust in her own inner voice is inspiring.

Booking

*Nudity is mandatory. Women have the option to wear bottoms for any reason. Please note that having your menstrual cycle doesn’t necessitate wearing bottoms, as we don’t want menstruation to limit your attendance. Everyone should be an active, willing participant and at least 18 years old.

Consent: Before touching anyone, please ask for their consent. Remember that anything less than an enthusiastic “yes” means “no.” This applies to all physical contact, including small touches that may seem appropriate in a clothed setting. The instructors will ask for permission before touching you during class and give you the opportunity to opt out of corrective touch. Understand that consent is an ongoing process; you can change your mind at any time, and any answer is completely acceptable. Consent is also a conversation with yourself, so know your own boundaries first so that you can communicate them to others effectively.

*No Cruising: We define cruising as asking people out on a date or looking for a hookup. Giving unsolicited comments about your opinion of someone’s appearance also counts as cruising (e.g., telling someone that you find them attractive). Staring at anyone during class. It’s perfectly normal to look around, in a natural way, especially if you are unsure of how to do a posture, but staring has a different vibe to it that is prohibited.  Please err on the side of caution. If someone makes a cruising complaint against you, you’ll be asked to leave and won’t be welcome again. If you are a victim of cruising please notify the instructor immediately.

Anonymity: If you meet someone at a Naked Yoga class  and happen to interact with them in public, please be discreet about where you met.  Assume that everyone that you meet at a class doesn’t want anyone to know they’re there.

*Cell Phones: Cell phones are strictly prohibited from our events while clothes are off, especially after class when people are getting their stuff ready to leave.  If you need to check your phone for any reason while anyone’s clothes are off, please put on clothes, take your bag with your phone outside, and check the phone there (we don’t want to see it). Please turn your ringer/vibrator off during class. Clothes off? Phones off! Zero tolerance!

*The Erection Question: Not all erections are sexually inspired. If you get an erection during a group movement class, no big deal. Just ignore it, or take Child’s Pose if you want to. If you get an erection in preparation before or after a class, please don a towel or clothing for the comfort of some of our participants.

No Latecomers: In order to respect the safety of the space and the flow of the class, there will be strict “doors open” and “doors closed” times.  If you show up after the specified time, you will not be allowed inside, no exceptions.

Be Sober: Sobriety is mandatory. If you exhibit signs of visible intoxication, we will ask you to leave.

Bring a mat & towel: We strongly encourage you to bring your own mat & towel.
