Naked Yoga

Naked and Thriving Yoga
I know, I know… it seems taboo to many!
Especially down here in South Alabama.
Naked Yoga is the practice of yoga without clothes.
It has existed since ancient times as a spiritual practice but what are some benefits of this and why do people do it?

In a world of over sexualization of the body, fear and shame put on the body, and more and more time spent behind screens, it can be very healthy to come back to the body, innocence of nature, freedom from self-loathing, comparison and self hate.
Many folks discover or may already know, they simply love to be naked!
A study published by Psychology Today suggests that nudity in community in safe spaces has the potential to improve body image and seemed to make people less anxious about how others viewed their bodies, and in turn people felt more at home in their own skin.
Intention is everything.

“When you strip naked without being ashamed, and take your garments and put them under your feet like little children and tread upon them, then [you] will see the child of the living. And you will not be afraid.”
– Jesus, Gospel of Thomas

“We took on shame in a group context and it’s in a group context where we feel safe enough that shame falls away.”
– Dr. Joseph Kramer

*Nudity is mandatory. Women have the option to wear bottoms for any reason. Please note that having your menstrual cycle doesn’t necessitate wearing bottoms, as we don’t want menstruation to limit your attendance. Everyone should be an active, willing participant and at least 18 years old.
Consent: Before touching anyone, please ask for their consent. Remember that anything less than an enthusiastic “yes” means “no.” This applies to all physical contact, including small touches that may seem appropriate in a clothed setting. The instructors will ask for permission before touching you during class and give you the opportunity to opt out of corrective touch. Understand that consent is an ongoing process; you can change your mind at any time, and any answer is completely acceptable. Consent is also a conversation with yourself, so know your own boundaries first so that you can communicate them to others effectively.
*No Cruising: We define cruising as asking people out on a date or looking for a hookup. Giving unsolicited comments about your opinion of someone’s appearance also counts as cruising (e.g., telling someone that you find them attractive). Staring at anyone during class. It’s perfectly normal to look around, in a natural way, especially if you are unsure of how to do a posture, but staring has a different vibe to it that is prohibited. Please err on the side of caution. If someone makes a cruising complaint against you, you’ll be asked to leave and won’t be welcome again. If you are a victim of cruising please notify the instructor immediately.
Anonymity: If you meet someone at a Naked Yoga class and happen to interact with them in public, please be discreet about where you met. Assume that everyone that you meet at a class doesn’t want anyone to know they’re there.
*Cell Phones: Cell phones are strictly prohibited from our events while clothes are off, especially after class when people are getting their stuff ready to leave. If you need to check your phone for any reason while anyone’s clothes are off, please put on clothes, take your bag with your phone outside, and check the phone there (we don’t want to see it). Please turn your ringer/vibrator off during class. Clothes off? Phones off! Zero tolerance!
*The Erection Question: Not all erections are sexually inspired. If you get an erection during a group movement class, no big deal. Just ignore it, or take Child’s Pose if you want to. If you get an erection in preparation before or after a class, please don a towel or clothing for the comfort of some of our participants.
No Latecomers: In order to respect the safety of the space and the flow of the class, there will be strict “doors open” and “doors closed” times. If you show up after the specified time, you will not be allowed inside, no exceptions.
Be Sober: Sobriety is mandatory. If you exhibit signs of visible intoxication, we will ask you to leave.
Bring a mat & towel: We strongly encourage you to bring your own mat & towel.
