Naked Yoga

Naked Yoga is a way of taking a collective journey through fear into self discovery, compassion and empowerment. Naked yoga is not new it is an ancient practice.

My purpose for offering-

Naked yoga is a way of befriending body in a world that over-sexualizes or shames bodies through media, religious shame or taken on cultural beliefs that weren’t necessarily your own.

As Dr. Joseph Kramer says, we took on shame in a group context and it’s in a group context that feels safe enough that shame falls away.

What a class entails?

Guidelines are read and agreed upon before every single class. This is a desexualized space. Guidelines include No cameras, no staring, no unsolicited comments, erections are a natural part of the human experience and not all erections are sexually inspired. If you get an erection during class just ignore it or take child’s pose. If any of these guidelines are violated you will be immediately asked to leave.

In all my time of teaching so far I haven’t had to ask anyone to leave. Mostly I notice ppl are very respectful, sincere and genuine. That’s what we expect and welcome- if not respected you will be asked to leave.

I offer these classes when I feel inspired to. Similar to my community yoga classes I’ll post on my Facebook page or in FireFly community Yoga Facebook page when I am offering.

I do not offer these classes 1:1, but if you and group of friends want me to offer a class, reach out and we can discuss your intentions and see about availability.

I offer all genders classes as well as Women’s only.

How did I get started teaching Naked Yoga?

After having a liberating experience while being naked in a communal Japanese style bath/pool in Santa Fe at 10,000 waves spa, back in 2017, I felt the freedom that comes from releasing shame, I felt at one with myself and nature and all of life really…in that moment.

It was a desexualized space, and it was an experience of body neutrality and I loved it!

I loved seeing the innocence and beauty of aging bodies sharing the space with me and for maybe the first time in my life witnessing the beauty of life in all its forms all in one breath and moment.

I also felt sadness for humanity that has so much fear around body and self/image, I know I have had along the way and heard similar experiences from others as well.

I wanted to know, how can I offer an opportunity like this, for others interested??

And then I found Willow and Naked in Motion LLC on google.

Willow in my experience is a trailblazer in the field of bringing inclusive body positive yoga to humans.

And I realized omg! Naked yoga is a way to offer a naked opportunity and this isn’t new! It’s an ancient practice.

And omg! Willow has naked yoga studios!

2 for that matter. “Wow!” I thought.

I contacted Willow to see if she could teach me how she creates safe-enough inclusive spaces for naked yoga classes.

That was the start of three weekends I spent with her community guiding Naked yoga in Boston and learning so much from them! I have continued offering naked yoga since in Alabama on occasion and while we lived in Santa Fe for two and a half years I offered monthly Naked yoga classes with Santa Fe Community Yoga.
